Sleep & Wellness 2014: A Conference for Healthcare Professionals
A Conference for Healthcare Professionals promises to be an educational and enjoyable event. The conference will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 1-3, 2014. With its multidisciplinary approach to sleep medicine education, this conference will be the first of its kind. The event will be geared toward physicians, dentists, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and sleep technologists. Sleep experts and physicians will teach about narcolepsy, insomnia, pediatrics, and obstructive sleep apnea. Continuing Medical and Dental Education will be awarded at this event. The technical portion of this conference will provide authorized Continuing Education to technologists and respiratory therapists. Hands on learning sessions for beginning technicians, scoring workshops, and advanced learning topics for registered technologists will be available in this three day event. Both conferences will include a three-hour session dedicated to healthy daytime living to optimize sleep, with an emphasis on community awareness and patient education. Professional athletes and celebrity nutritionists will lead this session in conjunction with top sleep specialists from around the country. Held in Scottsdale Arizona, there are views of the stunning Sonoran Desert, the majestic Four Peaks and the iconic Red Mountains from the resort. You’ll experience the perfect blend of relaxation, productivity and networking.
Lunch Break Education
The American Sleep and Breathing Academy Offers free monthly continuing education courses to members. These courses provide a progressive learning program needed for maintaining certification. CSTE’s, CRCEs, and CEC’s are offered with this educational event. All Lunch Breaks are live every Third Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m. MST. Each monthly topic is new and different. Peter Mansbach is president and founder of Circadian Sleep Disorders Network, a patient advocacy organization seeking to increase awareness and accommodation for Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders such as Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder and Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder. Dr. Mansbach received his B.A. in physics from Harvard University, and his Ph.D. in physics (general relativity) from Brandeis University. He was diagnosed with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS) in 1979, even before the seminal paper defining this disorder was published. Since then he has managed to find employment that has allowed him to start work around 2:00 pm and continue into the evening. He has recently retired from paying work, and is currently devoting his time to the Circadian Sleep Disorders Network.
